Copperleaf Homeowners,
Would you like to have a greater voice in the future of Copperleaf and become more involved in the decisions that shape our community? The Copperleaf Homeowners Association is now accepting applications from homeowners interested in serving on the Board of Directors.
This year, three (3) Director positions are up for election. Each homeowner elected will serve a two-year term on the Board of Directors. The Association is governed by a five-member Board, with Directors serving two-year terms as provided in the Bylaws.
What Does It Mean to Serve on the Board?
Serving on the Board is an opportunity to take an active role in the stewardship and long-term direction of Copperleaf. Board members work together to make decisions that affect the community while helping ensure Association resources are managed responsibly.
The Copperleaf Board currently meets monthly. Directors should be prepared to attend meetings regularly, review materials in advance, participate in discussions, and thoughtfully consider the matters brought before the Board.
Board responsibilities can include:
- Reviewing the Association’s financial position, budgets, and reserve planning;
- Evaluating contracts, proposals, and community projects;
- Overseeing the maintenance, repair, and improvement of Association common areas and amenities;
- Establishing and reviewing Association rules, policies, and procedures;
- Working with management, vendors, committees, and other professionals;
- Considering homeowner concerns and community priorities; and
- Making decisions with the long-term interests of the Association and the Copperleaf community in mind.
The Bylaws provide the Board with broad authority and responsibility for managing the affairs of the Association, including entering into contracts, collecting assessments, employing management and other contractors, and overseeing the maintenance, repair, and reconstruction of Common Elements and Association improvements.
Who Is Eligible to Serve?
Under the Association’s Bylaws, a candidate must be an Owner who is eligible to vote, current in the payment of assessments, and otherwise in good standing and compliance with the Association’s Governing Documents. Only one Owner per Unit may serve on the Board.
Board service is a volunteer position, and Directors do not receive compensation for their service to the Association, although approved expenses incurred while performing Board duties may be reimbursed.
Previous HOA or Board experience is not required to be a candidate. A willingness to participate, ask questions, review information, listen to different perspectives, and work collaboratively with fellow Board members is what matters most. The Bylaws also encourage Directors to participate in educational programs related to community association management, operations, or law.
Interested in Running?
If you are interested in serving your community, please complete the attached Candidate Application and include a brief “About Me” statement to be shared with the membership as part of the election materials.
Your statement is an opportunity to introduce yourself to your neighbors and share a little about your background, how long you have lived in Copperleaf, why you are interested in serving on the Board, and the experience or perspective you would bring to the Association.
Positions Available: Three (3) Directors
Term of Office: Two (2) Years
Meeting Frequency: Monthly
Candidate Deadline: Friday, September 25, 2026
Please return your completed Candidate Application and “About Me” statement to Service Plus Community Management by the deadline above. Submitting by September 25 ensures your name and candidate information can be included with the initial election materials and gives homeowners an opportunity to learn more about you in advance of the election.
Miss the deadline but still interested in serving? Homeowners who do not submit candidate materials by the deadline may still nominate themselves from the floor during the electronic voting period. Once nominated, their name can be added to the electronic ballot for consideration by the membership. The Copperleaf Bylaws expressly permit nominations from the floor.
Why Consider Serving?
Serving on the Board provides homeowners with an opportunity to better understand how the Association operates and to contribute their time, knowledge, ideas, and perspectives to the community.
Copperleaf is a large and active community with ongoing decisions involving Association finances, reserve planning, landscaping, amenities, infrastructure, community standards, contracts, and future improvements. Having homeowners willing to participate and bring different perspectives to the table is an important part of maintaining a strong and well-run Association.
With three of the five Board positions up for election this year, this is a great opportunity to get involved and play a more active role in Copperleaf.
If you have ever wanted to learn more about how the Association operates, contribute your ideas, or have a more direct role in the future of the community, we encourage you to consider submitting your name for consideration.
If you have questions regarding Board responsibilities, candidate eligibility, or the election process, please contact our office at 720-571-1440 or [email protected].
